So, congratulations to Dr. T – as of today, he is a second-year anesthesia resident. To celebrate, he wore pajamas (I mean, scrubs) to the hospital, oh wait, that’s every day.

Telfer’s medical path:

* Four years of medical school – DONE
* Intern year – DONE
* Anesthesia Year 1 – DONE
* Anesthesia Year 2- ONE DAY IN, 364 to GO
* Anesthesia Year 3 – NEXT YEAR
* Fellowship Year – YEAR AFTER
* Fully fledged anesthesiologist: 2 years, 364 days (not that we’re counting).

Henry the Guard Dog

I am sitting at my desk working away and Henry is at my office "window" (overlooking, alas, the current journal stacks), keeping guard. So far he has protected me from staff shelving journals and two colleagues with the temerity to knock at my office door.

Henry doesn’t know this yet, but he is off to a grooming appointment in about an hour. He will undergo a blueberry facial (not a joke) among other grooming necessities, inevitably concluding with a jaunty bandanna (stars and stripes perhaps?) tied round his neck. About five minutes after Telfer comes home tonight, the bandanna, no matter how festive, will find its way to the trash.

Be forewarned: Nerdy Book Excitement

41mov67plml_aa240_ You know how I love LibraryThing? The compulsive social networking site for books? Well, they started a program with RandomHouse, matching up advance reading copies of novels with appropriate  readers on LibraryThing. LT is starting out small, 100 copies of five upcoming novels. AND I GET ONE!  Apparently, "my library matches really well." After an anxious waiting period, FedEx brought me a copy of Ellen Baker’s first novel, Keeping the House yesterday afternoon.  All I have to do is read the novel, and share my review of the book on LibraryThing. How cool is this?

You can read more about the LibraryThing Early Reviewers Program here.

Henry wants to go to Idaho

Henry is quite taken with his Auntie Anna.

Anna has been in Redlands since Thursday morning. Ostensibly in Southern California for her grandfather’s 95th birthday AND Bekah’s graduation with her Ph.D from Fuller in Psychology, she also spent quality time in Redlands. We attended a lovely graduation reception for Bekah in Pasadena on Saturday but managed to find time to shop enough that poor Anna was laden down with bags when I dropped her off at the airport this morning. Although she is sans punch bowl this trip, she/we hit some wonderful yard sales and antique stores (read: books, bowls, teacups, etc.). Good times.
