Home again

so happy to be home

Cate and I are both so glad to be home. Traveling with a baby, particularly by yourself, is quite the adventure.

Once I check my luggage, the car seat, the car seat base, and the bumbo (it fits inside the carseat) through, I still have to go through security with a diaper bag, my purse, the stroller, and Cate while taking off my shoes and keeping my boarding pass handy. I am resourceful but I cannot hold Cate and lift the stroller up on to the belt to go through the x-ray. You’d think someone would offer to help, you know, the woman to my left or the man to my right. But they usually don’t and I have to beg. On my flight from Ontario to Portland we sat by a woman WHO DID NOT LIKE CHILDREN. And Cate is mildly freaking out, kicking around, draping herself all over this woman. Good times. And a two hour flight that feels like six hours.

We missed Daddy (and let me say this: I never thought I would be one of those people who called my husband DADDY) and Henry. We are settled in again and on the weekend agenda: Telfer and Chris go to NYC to find an apartment and Mendy comes to visit Cate and me in Redlands!

Idaho Trip

a gift for daddy

It's been eight years since we graduated from college and my four closest friends (RaChelle, Melissa, Anna and Kori) and I have been able to get together about every year since. It's kind of amazing. This year, Cate and I traveled to Boise last Thursday and we got home on Tuesday. Whew.

Our time together is always so much fun and I am always so blessed by our friendship. This year we spent a good chunk of our time in a cabin in McCall (thanks to a family at Melissa's church) enjoying good food and talking, talking, talking. Of course we visited Amanda and Kathy Burns. And Bekah came over to Anna's to chat on Sunday night. And I spent a wonderful night at Nate and Claire's house. I love newlywed's and I am telling you, these two are probably the cutest newlywed's I have ever seen.

Unfortunately, I didn't take too many pictures so I am basically waiting until RaChelle posts her pictures (so I can steal them).

Los Angeles Food!

I forgot to post this! Last Sunday was our last "free" day before we move. We loaded Cate into the car and basically ate our way through Los Angeles, stopping at Pink's Hotdogs, Sprinkles Cupcakes, the L.A. Farmer's Market and then ended up at King's Tacos. The photos are on flickr. We may not consume like this all the time, but when necessary, the two of us can EAT.

Better next year?

easter baby

Well, Cate's first Easter was a bit of a mixed bag. On Friday, we visited her Loma Linda pediatrician for the last time and Cate is now 27 inches long (3 inches growth in 1.5 months…) and 16 lbs! She is in the 90th percentile for weight and height. Wow. She went through this period last month where she wanted to eat twice in the night and now I know why. THREE inches…

Her vaccinations left her irritable so by Resurrection Sunday we were all a bit tired. Telfer had to work all day but Cate and I got ready for church. And then I couldn't find my keys. Here we were, all dressed up in our Easter finery and literally could not get out of the house (all our doors require a key to open them). After tearing up all sorts of stuff, I FINALLY found them (behind our portable dishwasher) and we raced off to church where Cate was unhappily ensconced in the nursery. She lasted maybe 45 minutes before they had to buzz me. I tried to watch the sermon in the nursery but she couldn't quite calm down. We went home and both took a much needed nap. Telfer got off at 7:00 after a 24-hour call bearing Easter Thai. And then we went to bed.

But! Jesus is ALIVE regardless! I just hope next year is more celebratory.
