New Floors & Roof.
Well, our floors look pretty amazing. Telfer and I grouted the tile floor in the kitchen on Sunday night – and they look so good! RaChelle – sorry, but the floors are white. I know that was your main piece of advice…but I really like white floors.
The guys from Redlands Flooring also completed refinishing the hardwood floors in the rest of the house on Sunday. They are so beautiful that we are hesitant to even walk on them at this point – let alone put furniture on them! Every floor surface has been updated in the house except for the bathroom (which I love). The roof is also new as of Saturday.
We are getting so much done! We are now de-pinking the kitchen. We have been frequenting Home Depot and Lowes a great deal these days – I even got carded yesterday at Home Depot when I bought "Cracks be Gone" (in an aerosol can – thanks to the fume-sniffers, there is an age limit to buying spray paint, etc.). The checker looked at me and then at my license and finally said, "you look really young for your age." Good times.
Not too sad.
Moving Day.
We moved very handily on Saturday morning, thanks to our Koinonia group. What a helpful bunch they are – Telfer got the U-Haul truck to our apartment at about 8:00 – by 10:00 a.m. we had the truck loaded and then unloaded at our new house (well, we unloaded all of our stuff into the garage (literally – it’s an apartment with a bathroom and stuff). This is a group photo of the morning – we appreciate them all so much! More moving pictures are in the 2005 photo album.
And THEN, Telfer and I were planning to tile the kitchen after we moved. Of course, we didn’t really know what we were doing, and so Ron (from our church) and his son Randy (an 8th grader) stayed and helped Telfer until 10:00 p.m. that night. In between, we had a surprise visit from Chris and Mendy – they took us out to dinner and then I played with them while Telfer worked. Not too shabby.
Homeowners.
On Monday we received the keys to our new house!! About ten minutes later we were ripping out carpet (some of the old carpet pads looked like animal hair – I was totally grossed out) and knocking out a nasty greenhouse (long story). We were done by 9:00 BUT still managed to wake up a disgruntled next-door neighbor who thought our parents were letting us help them out. Nope, we’re the owners! I think he’s used to 93 year-olds living in the house. Our friends, David and Susanna, very sweetly decided to come help us out.
The floor guys started refinishing the floors Tuesday morning. The roofers started today. Telfer is done reading EKG’s and also pretty much done with his medical school career. He is now tile-man extraordinnaire. Very impressive – well, he hasn’t actually tiled yet, but I think that he will truly earn the title. He is laying backerboard this morning and afternoon. We are moving out of our apartment (which is infested with earwigs) and moving into the garage (literally) of our new house tomorrow morning.
