January is over and yet.

It's still cold.

Somehow, reading about cold made it suddenly seem scientific and interesting rather than something to be endured. And New York cold is different than Alaska cold. Basically, I am a weenie. Cold: Adventures in the World's Frozen Places by Bill Streever is a fabulous book, definitely one to curl up with on a February afternoon.

I kept wishing I could read it in here. This is truly the thing I miss most about our house in Redlands.

Flea market finds

 i could go every week
Originally uploaded by telfandrea.

I have meant to post this for over a week now but apparently I was too busy reading about the cold.

Last weekend Telfer, Eleanor, Cate and I went to the Brooklyn Flea. I love a good flea market or yard sale. And this one had food. Even better.

Among our finds:

A 60s-style vinyl rocker for Cate.

8 cups and saucers with a retro feel.

And then finally, Telfer's pig. He fell in love with it and I couldn't break his heart.

And then the food. I could eat a lobster roll every day. And cupcakes, especially little maple cupcakes with bacon on top of the frosting. Really. I can't believe I forgot to take a picture.

Cate’s Favorite Things.

in henry's bed, reading my books…

A parent's nightmare/picture opportunity. Your clean, sweet, sockless baby lounging in a dog bed thumbing through your pristine copy of Cranford.

In other news, Telfer is almost halfway through a very busy ICU rotation. The weather is much nicer. Eleanor is back from Southern California and has started school again. Cate began a baby gym class about six blocks from us. It's usually me and the nannies (well, to be fair, there was one mother besides me there today). Cate loves the soft, bouncy gym equipment, the other babies, and the bubble machine. Yes, there is a bubble machine. It reminds me of a certain prom theme in high school, "dream a little dream", but with toddlers. Eleanor's going to babysit tonight once Cate is in bed and Telfer and I are going out to dinner. Thank God Telfer doesn't throw such a fit (see below) if a mushroom dares to pass before his eyes.

The new dinner

Since Cate was sick a couple of weeks ago, mealtimes have been a little rough. Food that she used to enjoy like baby oatmeal, chicken and some fruit, are no longer friends and the mere sight of a certain jar of baby food is enough to get the reaction below.

She's eating a LOT of yogurt. And bananas. So I guess it could be worse. The dramatic reactions last seconds and the pictures below were taken in a space of less than two minutes.

Anyone want to come over for dinner?
