rip

We had our first (out of many I am sure) instance of incredibly questionable parenting last week. I was hosting a baby shower at our house for my friend Lisa and with fifteen minutes before people started showing up, I was in go-mode, cooking and cleaning. Telfer was helping me and playing with Cate who was sitting in her bumbo seat on the kitchen table. I was chopping something and happened to turn around only to see two-feet flames shooting up about six inches from where Cate was sitting. She had dropped her Sophie giraffe (a teething toy she got as a gift) into the candle… Thank the Lord Sophie (poor Sophie) took the beating (alas, no legs) in this case rather than my sweet girl…
As this is Cate's most beloved toy, we had to find her a Sophie the II.

i love my sophie

monstrosity

Witness the plastic monstrosity that is now in our home. We had lofty ambitions of a life without ugly plastic toys, but you know what? I need to be able to take a shower without tears.
We finally broke down and bought Cate an excersaucer (ridiculous name) and she loves it…My mom and sister are laughing about now.

so big!

Telfer and I are thinking Cate looks pretty old about now. She's been so smiley and sweet today.

And then I realize, she isn't that old after all.
Also: three people also thought she was a boy today. Does a grey hat equal boy to people? Hello, pink pants? Pink blanket in the stroller?

my sisters

Cate and I got back from Richland on Thursday (thank you again for picking us up from the airport Michael!) after a rather long flight from Seattle to Ontario. Yikes. So good to be home after a week away.
But! As always, we had a good time together in Richland. My mom and sisters and I had a baby shower for our friend Jamie, Mendy & Eleanor came down for the night to visit, and we celebrated Alyssa’s 29th birthday. I think Mom & Dad were thankful for some peace and quiet after we left :).
