mom & girls

Last week Telfer and I went on our last trip home before baby (um, in 7 weeks, yikes). The whole time I was in various airports (Ontario, Portland, Pasco, Seattle) I kept thinking about how it will literally be at least fifteen years before air travel is uncomplicated again. Watching several moms with with babies and toddlers just made me tired. Who knows? Cate could be a little traveler…but then again she could be a little screamer. We shall see.

I spent a few quality days with my parents, sisters and nieces in Richland before being picked up by Telfer to attend Claire and Nate’s wedding in Olympia.  I’ll post a few pictures – there are lots more off the Flickr link.

This picture is outside of Anthony’s in RIchland – we went out for a nice dinner to celebrate birthdays (Dad’s, Elizabeth’s and mine).

Riddle me this

So, I am at the reference desk, and a woman walks by the desk, pausing at the nameplate that lists "Andrea Griffith" as the reference librarian, and stands with a bemused expression. I asked if I could help, no, she says, "I am just looking at your name. Your parents must have an incredible sense of humor."

Is there something no one is telling me?

Excitement for the Day (Thursday edition)

Little things tend to make me nearly ridiculously happy. The good kind of chocolate chip cookies, my roses, leaving work ten minutes early, filtered water in this one particular office in the library, quesadillas, making the traffic light, Harry Potter.

So, my excitement of the day: Preordering The Tales of Beetle the Bard. And of course I need the collector’s edition. Telfer is the epitome of the easy sell: I combine the words collector’s edition, Harry Potter, and early Christmas present in one sentence. He immediately says: order it.

starting to look good

Putting together a baby’s room is all shades of wonderful. Yesterday we painted the walls and as you can see…they are NOT pink. Who says girl babies need pink rooms? When Cate’s four and pink is all she dreams about, she can have pink walls…but until then…

Unnamed people are starting to freak me out with tales of babies coming early…and the fact that I was four weeks early doesn’t help. I like to be prepared. Click on the flickr link to see a few more pictures. There will be many more soon.
