Disconnecting

This morning, drinking my americano and eating a pumpkin scone, I read this article, found through a blog I enjoy. The author of the blog is disconnecting from all things Internet over the long weekend…and something in me just said, YES! I tend to waste a lot of time dinking around on facebook and blogs, etc. I think it’s safe to assume the internet will be back on Monday.

Wait. I might have to turn on the laptop to look up movie times for Beowulf. And maybe to load my ipod with Christmas music. But that’s IT.

  1. Okay, now I have commented on all 3 posts…but you won’t know it since you won’t be flipping up your laptop any time soon. 🙂 Have fun “disconnecting.”

  3. i love the idea of giving up email. i think we are all better people when we write real letters and make real phone calls. of course, i am a better person when i at least email in lieu of a call or a letter. what does that make me when more of the emails in my inbox are starred “respond to…someday?” than not?
i read a fabulous article this spring about a guy who sent a mass email to everyone in his contact book telling them that he was taking an email hiatus and would be starting back from scratch in a week–if they hadn’t received a response to an earlier email yet, they should not expect one, and so on. i haven’t had the guts to do it yet, but oh how i want to!
