Portland trip

What can be better than your best friend and bonding with family in ONE weekend? I went up to Portland last weekend to further get-to-know an almost-member (wedding is November 4) of the Griffith family, Adrielle with Claire and Mendy. We laughed a lot and shopped a lot…good combination!

I also spent one night with RaChelle and Paul and we packed a lot in: lunch and shopping on Hawthorne in Portland, meeting Joshua (RaChelle’s incredibly handsome nephew), seeing their new, beautiful, but in-progress house, running on a beautiful trail, and finally, eating one of the best breakfasts I have ever had (probably because we were absolutely starving).

It’s hot and Henry’s really cute

Um, literally, Henry is the most exciting thing that is going on right now, besides the record-breaking temperatures (short version: it’s really hot). Well, that’s not exactly true: Telfer did start his first year of anesthesia training at the beginning of July. That’s news! He gets up really early and rides off into the sunrise on his Vespa attired in blue scrubs and his brand-new Dansko clogs. He’s at the VA this month and doesn’t take call…it will be busier eventually but we are enjoying having him home evenings and weekends for the rest of the month.

What else? I am reading Madame Bovary for the first time…rationing it a chapter a night so it lasts as long as possible; we just finished the first season of Veronica Mars (I LOVE IT! Nancy Drew for the modern girl); and I am ENDLESSLY watering plants so they don’t shrivel and die in the excessive heat and ashiness (from the fires). Did I mention Henry is really cute?

Henry is settling in very nicely to his new house. We are impressed at how good he is at adapting to new things. He doesn’t cry anymore at night, he has been (potty)accident free for three days now, he has gone to work with me and charmed the socks of everyone, he loves chasing water bottles, and is just a happy little dog. I am, not surprisingly, totally smitten.

Under the Reference Desk

The library is empty today, students are celebrating the fourth already, and I have a very cute little friend sleeping right underneath the reference desk. Meet Henry, our new Westie puppy! Telfer and I picked him up from the Phoenix-area yesterday…he’s adjusting pretty well. Henry seems to like Telfer and I BUT the whole pottying thing? Not so much. He’s already had his first bath (pooping in a crate makes quite the mess – ask Telfer). Thank you to Kori Frahm, who I woke up this morning, for the needed potty advice. I haven’t had a chance to upload the digital camera photos yet (this picture is from my phone), so check back for more pictures later.
