Henry the Birthday Dog

Henry is 3 today!

So far he has received multiple treats including a really special beef chew that Cate and I picked out for him at Trader Joe’s. Later tonight we are having our neighbors over for dinner to celebrate. And he’ll get a walk too. Anyone want to exchange lives with Henry? I must admit, I’ll be working in the afternoons and Henry is curled up on top of the couch in the library, and I just want to go and join him…

The Griffith Move 2009 is underway. Our house has been in escrow for well over a week and while you can't be sure until the very end, our appraisal went well on Saturday (which was the last thing we were worried about). The young couple that is buying our house love all my paint colors which, in turn, makes me love them.

We are slowly, and somewhat painfully figuring out all the details. Turns out, this is quite a complicated endeavor. Figuring out how to get part of our stuff and our little family from Point A to Point B is well, tricky. And, the buyers need to move in on June 1 which moves everything up an entire month. Telfer finishes his residency at the very end of June and also needs to be in NYC to start his fellowship at the very end of June. Figure it out they say! So, pray for us.

I am doing better than I was two weeks ago. Two weeks ago I was absolutely overwhelmed and couldn't concentrate on anything. So, what did I do? I searched for a plastic tray that fit into a wicker basket and organized all my makeup. The plastic tray holds daily products and lifts off to store products I don't use often but still need. I realize it's not much, but at least one small area of my life is under control. We may not have an apartment in NYC but I can find my eyeliner easily. Small victories.

The days are longer and we are enjoying our last California springtime. I spent a good couple of hours in the hammock today during naptime and our evening walks with Henry are drenched with the smell of orange blossoms. Heaven. Cate is also wearing outfits that show off her chubby arms and legs and I can barely keep myself from kissing her constantly.

So, our prospective Virginia buyer finally fell through. I must snark: the deal went south because our bathroom is not wheelchair compliant and the cost of making it so was what tipped her over the edge. And here’s the kicker: she’s not in a wheelchair, just merely “planning for future contingencies”. Good luck finding an old house friendly to a wheelchair! We can barely get Cate’s exersaucer through the doorways let alone a wheelchair.

Moving on: we listed our house on Monday with a fabulous real estate agent here in Redlands (thanks Bob!) and as of this afternoon, we already have a serious offer. I am trying to coax my mind into a “cautiously optimistic mode” rather than a “wildly ecstatic mode”. It’s not going well. Regardless of what happens with the house, God is good all of the time.
