It took me fifteen minutes to drive to work this morning – if you have visited us, you know that it should take oh, 3 minutes to drive to the library from our apartment. Most of the campus roads were blocked off for some reason. When I managed to actually make it to work (after taking about three different detours) someone finally told me what happened. A magnificent car chase (stolen car, cops chasing after thief) tore through Loma Linda this morning and came to an unfortunate end for car and thief (I am pretty sure he died) when car met the brick side of the library.
Telfer can see!
This is definitely an example of a picture I would not necessarily post of myself…but obviously I have little qualms of showing off Telfer.
Telfer had laser eye surgery done this morning and has been sitting in a darkened room all afternoon watching "boy" movies (i.e. ones I don’t want to watch). Telfer has not been able to wear contacts for the last year or so and has not complained (like I would) when sweat causes his glasses to slip down his nose or when he has to choose between losing his glasses in the ocean and basically not seeing the ocean. So, I am happy to report he will no longer have to contend with slippery glasses and the "do-I-wear-them-or-not" dilemma.
Confession
Yes, we admit it. Telfer and I are closet The O.C. watchers. Yes, that O.C. – the soap opera teen trauma/drama. For some reason, we really like it. When Claire (Telfer’s sister) found out our secret, she gave us these t-shirts that she and her friends at NNU made. So here we are (Claire’s on her spring break) in our matching t-shirts. Front (California here we come and back (The O.C. rocks our eyebrows – a reference to Peter Gallagher’s amazingly *huge* eyebrows) for your viewing pleasure.
Congratulations to Missy & Jason
Missy Johnson, one of my favorite people in the whole world (and a fellow English nerd) is getting married on August 12! Telfer and I are so happy for her and Jason (whom we have never met but can just tell he is a good guy). Missy and Jason both live and work in Washington, D.C. I am definitely going to Boise for the wedding, but Telfer, alas, is going to be busy in his first month or so of his residency…
THE MATCH
On Thursday March 17th, St. Patrick’s Day to many and “Match Day” to a few, Andrea and I found out that we will be remaining Southern California for at least four more years. This is fortunate as our first choice for an internship year in Medicine and three subsequent years of training in Anesthesiology was to remain at Loma Linda.
Match Day started with a class breakfast and then a dramatic handing out of envelopes in which we each read the location of the next phase of our training. Later that evening there was a class party, naturally with green attire recommended (note picture from our big evening out), to celebrate either our good fortunes or at least the end of the long wait.
What is the Match? I will not go into much detail but for those truly interested is the following link to the National Residency Matching Program or NRMP.
