Baby Quilt

mom’s quilt

My mom finished Cate’s quilt and sent it to us last weekend. Is it not perfect? I keep going into the baby’s room to visit – it’s the perfect mixture of modern and girlie (and it’s hand-quilted).
Just hanging out

vacuum

So, I have been on maternity leave for the last week and a bit and so far no baby, but I have been amusing myself very successfully by:
- hanging this actual, received-in-the-mail postcard on our refrigerator and giggling every time I pass
- watching the Tina Fey/Sarah Palin & Amy Poehler/Hillary Clinton sketch on SNL about fifteen times, not so much giggling as crying with laughter
- reading a lot (in the hammock when it's not too hot)
- making three different soup recipes to freeze for later (all with homemade stock – overachiever)
- completing necessary things like getting our car (not vacuum unfortunately) serviced
- a pedicure (later today)
- napping
All in all, very good times. We are now hoping she'll hold out until Monday at about 9:00 a.m. so Telfer can finish up his night call this weekend…Sounds reasonable, no?
Indeed

new motto

Recently ensconced on our living room wall, we have adopted this as our new motto for this new phase of life. Or, I should say, I have adopted this as my new motto. When is Telfer NOT calm?
I had an appointment yesterday – Telfer was able to go too – and my doctor thinks I’ll be about two weeks early. I think this next Tuesday will be my last day at work. I am hoping for just a smidgen of hammock time before Cate makes her arrival. In other good news, she already weighs 5lbs, 14 oz. which relieves me. I was a little worried she’d be way too puny.
I saw the vintage poster in a magazine and found a reproduction here. Apparently, "Keep Calm and Carry On" was a widely distributed British WWII slogan.
For the love of a hot dog

pink’s

Before this baby comes, we are trying to cross a few things off our L.A. list that we have neglected in the seven years of living here…check off a visit to Pink’s, a famous L.A./Hollywood hot dog shack.
Of course we went *after* the Hollywood Bowl on Saturday night which meant we were standing in line for over an hour in an interesting (read: seedy) part of town. Honestly though, when we finally had our hot dogs in our hot little hands at at 2:00 in the morning, it was well worth it…SO GOOD. And then we had to drive over an hour to get home.
Note: my hot dog has the fake nacho cheese squeezed all over it. I think Telfer will find this is an important distinction. Sheer willpower keeps me from consuming fake nacho cheese over everything.
